International Women’s Day Charity Cabaret 2014
Brace yourselves, as so much fun was had last year we just had to do it again. Please join us in celebrating International Women’s Day 2014 with the return of THE cabaret, at the Acorn Penzance on Saturday March 8th.
Hear Catrina Davies reading from her hot off the press, travel memoir ‘The Ribbons Are For Fearlessness’ and performing songs from her debut EP. Be moved by the Acorn Adult Drama Group’s presentation of extracts from Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. Watch in pure disbelief as Trifle Gathering bring their madcap antics to the party. Enjoy lush music from singer-songwriters Jenny Bishop, and Abbott & Birbeck. Marvel at Stacy Guthrie’s award-winning short films, Tree Stewart’s contact juggling, Drama Queen theatrics, Pauline Sheppard’s wordsmithery and more. Plus special guest appearances from Miss P herself and Kenny!
You get twice as much for your money third time around, with our double act ‘hostesses with the mostest’ The Two Marys. A little bit of mystery and magic, a lot of silliness. Not forgetting Ms Daisy Wright’s truly legendary Quiz, Dolly Parton Bingo, a fabulous raffle and an epic auction.
Held in celebration of women everywhere – our struggles, strengths and achievements – with proceeds this year again going to West Cornwall Women’s Aid (domestic violence) and PLAN (educating girls globally) as well as Truro-based CRASAC (Cornwall Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre) and Shelter For Humanity (disaster relief agency rebuilding lives).
Optional dress theme is to come as your favourite heroine. And please bring a bra to donate to our Big Bra Box, which will be distributed to Breast Talk, raising money for breast cancer research.
Not just for women, men are welcome too, so spread the word and help ensure the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.
Tickets at £6 and £4 conc. only available in person through the Acorn Box Office in advance, doors open 7pm for an 8pm curtain up.
