At Port Eliot on Friday 29 July writers Betty Davies, Mac Dunlop, Heather Hosking, Gray Lightfoot, Fi Read and Emma Timpany took Telltales to the Port Eliot Festival. During a glorious summer weekend our writers were free, before and after their performance, to enjoy the rest of what the festival had to offer, and there were difficult choices to be made because there was so much. Talks by literary names, music, food, fashion, swimming in the River Tiddy, stand-up comedy, cabaret, theatre: the festival is truly a feast for the senses. What a privilege to be there, and wearing our ‘artist’ wristbands.

One of Telltales’ aims is to inspire writers, and Wyl Menmuir‘s story does just that. Wyl, who lives in North Cornwall, had his first novel published – and came to Telltales at Dolly’s to read an extract from it – earlier this year. Now his novel, ‘The Many’, is on the Mann Booker prize long list. Many congratulations, and thanks for showing us that writer’s dreams do sometimes come true, Wyl!

Autumn Telltales. The next Telltales will be at Dolly’s Bar, Falmouth at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 4 October. The suggested theme for your writing is ‘Honey’. To get you started, think honey trap, honeymoon, honeyed lies, land of milk and honey, queen bee, bees’ knees, sweeter than honey…..
But, as always we will consider everything sent to us.
The deadline for submission of your writing is midnight Sunday 18 September.

1. submit using the form on this website
2. please don’t hold back because you’ve only just started to write, have never had anything published, have never read in public before – or for any other reason. Telltales wouldn’t exist without writers, and all are welcome.
3. we accept all kinds of writing (stories, poems, fiction, non-fiction, reflective, factual,life, travel, novel extract. etc.) from all sorts of writers (beginners to the well-established, aged from 16 to 110).
4. the themes can be interpreted in any way, and as loosely as you like, and if a theme doesn’t inspire you at all but there’s something else you’d like to read please submit it; we will consider everything.
5. the writing should take no more than 10 minutes to read aloud. The exception is Park Live (the monthly, open-air festival in Kimberley Park, Falmouth) where there’s an opportunity to read longer pieces.
