You and I
— an excerpt, by Nick Jarvis
Watch Nick Jarvis in action…
I’ve lied to the you
that I’ve lied to myself is you
who lied to me about who you are and who I am
and you lied about you too
to the I, that I used to mean the I that I am,
who’d lied about myself to
myself who thought I was me,
who thought you knew me.
But you lied to you
about who you are
and your I was not the you
you thought you were
or who I thought was you,
so when you did not know you,
you could not know the
me who the you (who you were not)
thought you knew.
But I had lied to myself about me
and your I (that was not the I you thought you were, but the I you are),
thought that I was the me that I thought I was
when I thought I was myself, after the
I that I use to mean the I that I am
had lied about myself to
myself who thought I was me
who’d been lied to by the you (who I’d lied to myself was you),
who was not the you that you thought you were
or the you that you are
or the you that
the I that I’d lied to myself was me knew
or the you
that the I who was not me
had lied to.
Why Choose Nick Jarvis?
"To be on the bill at Port Eliot Festival would be fantastic. The chance to be there around all that creative energy and be able to throw my own concoction of poetry into the mix would be a wonderful thing to be part of. It would also feel great to be representing Falmouth’s ever-growing and energetic writing scene, and to be able promote that amongst the country’s more established literary greats!"

Nick Jarvis is a fantastic poet, I have seen him perform many times. Including The Poly in Falmouth where he supported Molly Naylor. His poetry is cutting edge, daring, exciting, political, funny and extremely clever. I wish Nick every success. He is someone the world needs to hear. I want to see him perform at Port Elliot please. A poet not to be missed.

I have seen Nick perform a number of times. Therefore i feel fully justified in saying that his work is both entertaining and important. With a strong focus on how we come to construct our values and identities, Nick’s poetry is most pertinent for these times. His on stage persona is one of confidence, charisma and charm – something that his audiences (in my experience) have always responded enthusiastically to. I have no doubt that Nick would be very happily received at Port Elliott. As a thoughtful and charismatic poet for our time, he is perfect for the festival.

This is ace. The thing I like about your work is that you don’t keep it in a book. Whether reading it to people in theatres, in pubs, written in chalk on the floor its great you get it out there. Also never met a poet who wrote for 24 hours straight before, that was epic. Sam

Having seen Nick perform in a variety of unusual circumstances,
the effects of his presence ‘voiced’ at the Port Eliot Festival I am confident will be a huge addition, taking the audience on a wall-breaking quest of revelatory experience!

Nick is a wonderful entertainer and will bring a fresh, clean original act to enhance any performance. Any festival would be greatly enhanced with a performance by this charming man:)
