Admire Parabola Project Imagemakers Handiwork – Hand Bar Exhibition on Now!

July 27th, 2012  |  Published in Frontpage, Looking Back

You remember all that lovely artwork produced by our super-talented illustrators and photographers for the Parabola Projects Origins and Quickening? Well to celebrate their sheer brilliance we’re holding an exhibition of their work at Hand Bar, Falmouth for the next few weeks.

From Edward Tuckwell’s dark, dark woods to Chris Brown’s jaw-dropping photographs of his experiences Over the Yar La, they’ll catch your eye and blow your mind, we promise.

We’ll be in the Hand Bar, admiring their handiwork (sorry!) and raising a glass to them on Thursday 2nd August from 8pm if you fancy coming along to join us. It’ll be a chance to meet some of the imagemakers and maybe even buy a print or two.

We really hope to see you there.

The Parabola Project II: Quickening – Out Now!

December 4th, 2011  |  Published in Frontpage, Looking Back

After a roaringly successful launch party last week we are very proud to say that The Parabola Project is now available to buy and it looks beautiful.

Featuring the talents of 19 writers from across the writing spectrum, as well as stunning illustrations and photographs from some incredible imagemakers, it’s bigger and better than issue I, just as we had hoped.

So far the response both to how it looks and how it reads has been brilliant and we look forward to hearing from more of you once you’ve had a chance to pick up a copy.

You can buy Parabola online now, or from stockists across Cornwall, as well as from our newest stockist Magma, in London.

It’s just £6 and every penny we make will go straight back into the publishing pot to be able to do it all again for issue III.

You’ve all been amazing so far with your support of Parabola and the creative writing scene, but now we really need you.

The more copies we sell the more likely it is we will be able to showcase even more writers and illustrators next year, so please do buy a copy and spread the word. It makes a great Christmas present!

For more information on stockists, featured writers and of course to buy a copy, as well as illustrated postcards and posters check out www.parabolaproject.com

Telltales Parabola Project launch party

After months of campaigning, reading, editing, commissioning, designing and proofing, The Parabola Project Issue II will be hitting the shelves this November with a launch party to remember.

Taking over The Rum Bar, Falmouth on Tuesday 29 November, Telltales will be celebrating the launch of The Parabola Project Issue II: Quickening with an entertaining night of word wizardry, showcasing the rich creative talent featured in the new issue and beyond.

With readings from recently signed author Chelsey Flood, captivating travel writer Chris Brown and satirical performance poet Nick Jarvis on the cards, as well as free Winter Pimms, mince pies and an opportunity to look through the proofs and plates that all fed into the production process,  it promises to be great evening. Not to mention the fact that it’ll be your first chance to get your hands on a copy of The Parabola Project Issue II: Quickening.

For those of you that don’t know, The Parabola Project is an independently published creative writing anthology that showcases creative talent from Cornwall and beyond. Available online in Waterstones Truro and from independent bookshops across Cornwall, it costs £6 – with all profits going back into the production pot for issue III.

So what are you waiting for? Get out your diary and write this in in permanent pen –  “29 November, 7.30pm @ The Rum Bar, Falmouth, celebrating the launch of The Parabola Project and picking up my copy, can’t wait to see it…” or something similar.

Says Telltales founder and The Parabola Project publisher and editor Clare Howdle: “we’re so proud of this issue and are really looking forward to celebrating it with everyone. It’s been a lot of hard work but the incredible talent of our contributors has made it worth it. Not only is this issue funny, poignant, powerful and intelligent, it looks absolutely beautiful too, so we’re really excited to getting it out there and seeing what people think. On top of that we have a wonderful programme of writers performing so it’s going to be a totally brilliant night all round!”

The Parabola Project Issue II: Quickening launch party will take place on 29 November from 7.30pm at The Rum Bar, above Nancy’s, in Falmouth (TR11 3PN). For more information check out www.wordslikepictures.com/telltales

First edit and images – Parabola Project Video Blog 4

September 7th, 2011  |  Published in Frontpage, Looking Back

It’s been a week since we last updated you on how everything is going at Parabola HQ, so here’s our next Video Blog.

The editing gremlins seem to have had their way and refused to let me upload the snipped version, so I’m afraid I haven’t been able to chop out being put off by the camera man (thanks Zander)! Makes it more realistic I suppose.

We hope you like what you see enough to dig into your pockets and pledge.

Parabola is really starting to take shape now, but it could be so much more if we manage to hit our Wefund target.

Fingers Crossed. Until next time…

It was a closely fought contest, a battle of words, a fight to the end, but after hundreds of votes the three writers chosen by the public to read out as part of the Telltales set at Port Eliot Festival 2011 are Nick Jarvis, Jo Thomas and Rupert Wallis.

Congratulations to them and commiserations to our other shortlisted writers you are all brilliant and we wish we could have taken everyone.

The Parabola Project Wins a MIA!

June 10th, 2011  |  Published in Frontpage, Looking Back

“A beautifully crafted object that augments the content exceptionally well, a celebration of print and the beauty of the written word.”

That’s what the judges of the Media and Innovation Awards 2011 had to say about The Parabola Project last night at their annual awards ceremony.

We were overjoyed to win the category of Best Graphics, in acknowledgment of the look and feel of Telltales’ first publication.

In producing Parabola we wanted to show that style and substance can work in synergy, so are really happy that others have recognised the value of that too.

Thanks to all the writers and imagemakers who made The Parabola Project what it is. And thanks especially to the super talented boys at Venn Creative, who always astound us with their design wizardry.

Parabola Project is available to buy online www.parabolaproject.com or from stockists across Cornwall, check out the Parabola website for more details.

And we’ve just started on issue II.  Submissions are now open for Parabola Project: Quickening and close on the 27 July, so get writing…

For more details on issue I, the now in production issue II or on The Parabola Project in general, check out the Parabola website.

January 25th, 2011  |  Published in Frontpage, Looking Back

Much praised (and justifiably so) is Over The Yar La, the astonishing extract from Chris Brown’s travel journal, and Jo Thomas’ superb  Paper to Stone. Take a look at the review for yourself and remember you can pick up a copy of Parabola Project from the website – www.parabolaproject.com

If you fancy hearing Jo Thomas in action, head on down to Telltales tonight, the 25 January, at The Rum Bar in Falmouth. She’s kicking off the evening’s programme…
