Port Eliot performers

Port Eliot Festival, St Germans, Cornwall will run from 24-27 July and Telltales will be performing again. This year we’re going to be Freshly Squeezed.

One long weekend. Six writers. Six original pieces of work. Across the Festival our writers will be seeking out inspiration, insight and even intrigue to get their creative juices flowing, before writing a piece to read out as part of the Telltales set on the Five Dials Stage on Sunday 27 July at 3.45 pm.

Penzance Lit Fest

A new word was minted: Beckhamesque.  We found out why an obituary was written for a living man.  We learnt about the importance of being un-earnest.  (Thank you, Peter Crisp.)  Thank you in fact to all our fabulous readers for a great night on Saturday 19 July, when Telltales performed at the Penzance Lit Fest.  We were once again in the congenial embrace of the Admiral Benbow, the ideal setting for our theme: Tide and Time.

David Rowald sang us in with two beautiful narrative songs.  Trina Beckett joined us as she did last year, reading the first installment of a story for 10 year-olds.  Once again, her writing caught us in its spell.  Sarah Valmai Jones shared her luscious poetry with us.  We plumbed the depths with Jacques Piccard, one of the greatest explorers within living memory.  His obituary was written and read to us by Marcus Williamson.

We were particularly pleased to welcome members of the St Agnes Writing Group, including Kate Nahorska and Susan Ashmore, both new to Telltales.  We look forward to hearing more of their talent  soon.

Our final reader, Malcolm Welshman, took us to a sci-fi world beyond the written word with a story that achieved something quite unique.  With a deceptively light touch, it evoked the essence of writing, what it is we love, why it matters, how we’d never be without it.

Dolly’s in Falmouth

Our final flourish of the month will be at Dolly’s in Falmouth on Tuesday 29 July at the usual time of 7.30 pm.  You can arrive from 7.00, have a drink, settle in and enjoy the atmosphere.

For those of you who missed the Penzance event, this will be your second chance to catch the words of Trina Beckett and Susan Ashmore and the evocative narrative songs of David Rowland.  Our other featured writers will be: Douglas Bence, Martine Levy, Aditya Mandrekar, Dominic Power and Joy Salisbury.

There will be time travel, tears and phantoms, short stories, poetry and a novel extract.   We can’t wait to see you there.
